Ten possible mistakes in avalanche rescue

7th possible mistake

Wrong:
Making large movements of the victim’s body during extrication.

Right:
Extricate the victim as gently as possible.

While extricating hypothermic victims, large body movements should be avoided, in order to prevent the cooling of the core by influx of cold blood from the periphery. Even when this is difficult to do in practice, unavoidable movements of the limbs should be made as slowly as possible.
