Ten possible mistakes in avalanche rescue

3rd possible mistake

Wrong:
Removing the probe after a possible find.

Right:
After a possible find, leave the probe in the snow.

If a rescuer thinks he or she has found something by probing, the probe must not be removed but must be left in the snow as a marker until the victim is dug out, because, on a second attempt, the probe may point in the wrong direction, delaying the rescue.
