Ten possible mistakes in avalanche rescue

2nd possible mistake

Wrong:
Unnecessarily approaching the avalanche site.

Right:
Approach the avalanche site only to locate,
dig out, or take care of the victim.

When the rescue team reaches the avalanche site, only those team members whose job it is to locate, rescue and take care of the avalanche victims should enter the site. Always remember that a buried victim could be just under the snow and surviving only with the aid of a fragile air pocket, which could be destroyed by trampling the avalanche area. For this reason, rescue equipment should be placed outside this area, and the helicopters should avoid landing directly on the avalanche site until the last victim has been dug out.
